Local Growers and Resources

During the growing season, from spring to fall, Hampton Roads enjoys a wealth of locally grown produce sold from Farmers Markets, on-the-farm produce stands, pick-your-own operations and tiny roadside stalls put up by backyard gardeners.  Take advantage of all our area has to offer and support your local farmer/gardener!

BROOKDALE FARM & MARKET

Directions: South on Princess Anne Road from the Nimmo Church/Red Mill Commons area or east on Indian River Road to the stoplight in downtown Pungo (Princess Anne/Indian River intersection), then south on Princess Anne Road (Virginia Route 615) for 4 miles.  Or from the Municipal Center area, take West Neck Road south, then turn right onto Princess Anne Road for 1.3 miles.  Our Farm Market (open only during sweet corn season) is on the left at the intersection of Princess Anne and Vaughan Roads.  Our farm, strawberry field, and pre-picked pumpkins are ¼ mile up Vaughan Road.
Hours: Summer Season:  9 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Saturday; 12 Noon-5 p.m., Sunday.  Pumpkin Season:  Honor System during daylight hours.
Products: Late April-early June - U-Pick strawberries, home-style jams, peach and pineapple salsas.  Mid-June-mid-August:  - Hand-picked sweet corn, tomatoes, peaches, melons, squash, home-style jams, peach and pineapple salsas, and more.  October:  Pumpkins, corn stalks, straw bales, home-style apple butter and pumpkin butters, peach and pineapple salsas are available by order.


CROMWELL’S PRODUCE

Directions: From stoplight in Pungo at the intersection of Indian River and Princess Anne Roads, go east 1 mile on Indian River Road.  Turn left on New Bridge Road for 1/4 mile.  Stand is on the right.  From stoplight at Princess Anne and Sandbridge Roads, go east on Sandbridge Road for 2 miles, then turn right on New Bridge Road for 1/2 mile.
Hours: 9 a.m.-6 p.m., daily, April-October.
Special Comments: We are a family-run operation with the bulk of our produce harvested daily on our farm and brought directly to our stand.
Products: Pick-your-own and fresh-picked strawberries, sweet corn, butter beans, tomatoes, squash, cucumbers, peas, snap beans and more.


CULLIPHER FARM MARKET

Directions: From the intersection of Princess Anne and Indian River Roads in downtown Pungo, head south on Princess Anne.  Stand is 2.3 miles south on the left.  From the intersection of Princess Anne and West Neck Roads, turn right off of West Neck and stand is 1/4 mile south on the left.
Hours: Strawberry Season: 7 a.m.-6 p.m., daily.  After strawberry season, 9 a.m.-6 p.m.
Special Comments: Cullipher Farm Market is a family-run, full-service market.  Our produce is offered seasonally by fourth, fifth and sixth generation farmers.  Our philosophy is simple - providing the best produce available at fair prices with excellent customer service.  The Cullipher family prides itself on providing, not only the finest quality fruits and vegetables, but also a true learning experience.  Each visit is filled with facts about the varieties, production practices, local customs and tips on preparing and cooking our produce.  Let us help make your next meal an event.  Tomato Festival and Tasting, first Saturday in August, 10 a.m.-1 p.m., celebrating homegrown tomatoes with tasting of more than 15 varieties
Products: We specialize in homegrown tomatoes, sweet corn, tree-ripened peaches, handpicked berries and specialty melons among more than 70 types of fruits and vegetables grown on our farm.  We also have the only U-Pick berries in Tidewater grown to organic standards.

Directions: Take Indian River Road east to Pungo, turn right on Princess Anne Road, farm is ½ mile south on the corner of Princess Anne Road and Muddy Creek Road.

Products: Pick-your-own and pre-picked strawberries. Other crops during the year include May peas, sweet potatoes, collards, pumpkins, and broccoli.


HENLEY FARM AND MARKET

Directions:  Farm - East on Indian River Road to Muddy Creek Road, turn left.  Go ¼ mile; turn right on Charity Neck Road. Farm is one mile.  Market - At the crossroads of Princess Anne and Indian River Roads at the Pungo stoplight.
Hours:  Farm - Summer - 7 a.m.-7 p.m.; fall - 8 a.m. to dark.  Market - 8 a.m.-6 p.m. 
Special Comments:  Pick-your-own at the farm or buy fresh-picked vegetables from the farm at our farm market.  Henley Farm has been welcoming visitors to our family farm for over 40 years to pick our strawberries, blackberries, sweet corn, tomatoes, various varieties of beans and peas, broccoli, collards, pumpkins and other vegetables.  In December, choose and cut your Christmas tree.  Experience a working farm and the taste of fresh-picked produce.

Directions:  South on Princess Anne Road from Nimmo Church or from I-64 east on Indian River Road (about 13 miles) to stoplight at Pungo intersection.  East on Indian River Road to Muddy Creek Road.  Left on Muddy Creek Road for 1.5 miles.  Look for sign on right.
Hours:  7 a.m.-7 p.m., Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday; Closed Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday.
Special Comments:  Free recipes.  Drinking/washing water.  Restroom.  Children welcome, if supervised.  Close to public ocean beaches.  Assistance to handicapped.  No pets please.  Call for picking conditions.
Products:  Pick-your-own thornless blackberries and blueberries - July through August.  Pre-picked berries by ordering in advance.  Also cut flowers, homemade jams, syrups and vinegars.  Elephant garlic and local honey.  Potted rabbiteye blueberry plants available.


PUNGO PRODUCE

Directions:  East on Indian River Road until it ends at T intersection with N. Muddy Creek Road.  The farm will be directly in front of you.

Products:  Pick-your-own and pre-picked strawberries.  Asparagus also available. Ask about availability of shitake mushrooms.

Directions: From resort area (Rudee Inlet), take General Booth Boulevard south to Princess Anne Road.  Turn left on Princess Anne Road (at historic Nimmo Church).  Go through Pungo stoplight, 4 miles south on Princess Anne Road.  Stand and farm are on the left.  From I-64, take Indian River Road east (11 miles) to West Neck Road (blinking caution light).  Turn right on West Neck Road (3 miles).  Turn right on Princess Anne Road.  Farm stand and farm on left 1¼ miles.
Hours: Our hours are 8 to 6, daily, late April thru early Fall. We also have a CSA, birthday party and fundraiser programs.
Special Comments: Family owned and operated since late 1600s.  Land grants from King of England.  Clean, weed-free strawberry fields.  Pick-your-own containers available or bring your own.  Children and children at heart welcomed (bring your camera!).  We have large parking area for buses and vans, picnic area during strawberry season.  Spend a day down on our farm!
Products: Our legendary sweet corn is in full production with new varieties available regularly. We have squash, zucchini, three kinds of eggplant (regular, Japanese & white), okra, red & green tomatoes, cucumbers, hot peppers, string beans, potatoes, cantaloupes, musk melons, watermelon (regular, seedless, & yellow), local honey, blueberries, peaches, and strawberries and fresh eggs.

BLACKWATER VINEYARDS

Directions: From I-64, take Indian River Road east to North Landing Road.  Turn right on North Landing, cross bridge and turn left on Fentress Airfield Road and left on Blackwater Road.  Vineyard is 3.5 miles on left (13.8 miles from I-64).
Special Comments: SCUPPERNONG/MUSCADINE GRAPES Picking season – September and October. Vineyard is well maintained. Plenty of parking.  Free picking containers.  Restroom available. Call for picking conditions.  Products: Pick-your-own grapes - several varieties of muscadine/scuppernong (black and bronze).
